WBOS

Starting in February, we will be advertising on WBOS, much as we have been on WFNX. We'll have the SATURDAY morning show, instead of the Sunday am as we have on FNX.

We've been getting response from the ads on FNX! Saturday alone we had TWO new customers because of hearing our ads on the radio!

New Fishes

We have added three NEW fishes to our tank. I bought three Albino Catfish to help clean up the mess the Goldfish will, and do, leave.

We haven't decided on names for them yet.

FRAME SAMPLE WALL

SO, I re-DID the Frame Sample Wall from when I showed you week or so ago. I squeezed our moulding in-stock samples closer and hung ANTIQUE FRAMED SALEM POSTCARDS between! Looks Great and I hope that sales of the postcards will increase!

Salem Gazette--AGAIN!!

I "blackmailed" the Salem Gazette into publishing an article about me buying the store. I framed the article and have it on display at the store.

New Rugs and Sofa

We have new RUGS!! And an antique sofa.

The old rugs were cool when first installed, but are out of date now, being Green and Maroon. PLUS they had fringe, which is HORRID for vacuuming. SO, we went to Building 19 and found 4 rugs that matched in color. They were CHEEP but can be easily replaced when they get un-recoverably soiled.

The antique sofa was found in an antique shop in Essex. It is from the late 19th century--Victorian times. I'm sure the upholstery is NOT original, but nice, none the less. A cat has had his way with the ends of the sofa, but not bad enough to have it re-upholstered. Eventually...

I love the Goth Doll provided by my Good Friend Kathleen. HER friend made the doll and its cool!!

Controversy and Correction

Okay.

Found out that the order of the Fates is incorrect. Lachesis is the Weaver; Atropos is the Cutter of the Thread of Life.

HOWEVER, the fishes' names haven't changed! The Red Oranda is still called Lachesis and the Calico RYUNKIN is still Atropos. Just their roles in their fishtank have changed.

NEW FRIENDS!

Last week I bought a FISHTANK! It occupies the center column of the store, so it is the first thing you see when you come in! Chinese Feng Shui says this is the best location, because the center column is a Shar, or bad, blocking, deflecting chi-energy source, and FISH are one of the BEST chi-energy gathering sources in that ancient art.

PLUS, before I got into framing as a profession, I was in the Pet Industry, mainly the Aquarium and Heptological Departments.

Since I know Fish Keeping top to bottom, I could have easily opted for Difficult Fish, like Discus or Marines. I dream of duplicating an Amazon River Basin tank, with Angel Fish and Severum, Cardinal and Emperor Tetras, Pacus, Piranhas and CANDIRUS, oh my!

But I decided on one of my first loves--GOLDFISH! But not just ANY goldfish.

These are the Three Fishes that I have chosen. Let's see if I can get their photos in the correct order for this blog site thingey:
Klotho, the Red and White Oranda
Atropos, the Calico Fancytail
Lachesis, the Red Oranda.

Yes, the Three Fates, as per Justin's suggestion. But I like it! Klotho spins the Web of Life; Atropos weaves the Threads; Lachesis cuts them at the End.

I can see major potential in these fish. Lachesis especially is a fine speciman of a Red Oranda. He or she will grow to be a rather magnificent example of the Goldfish Breeder's art. Unfortunately, I can't tell yet if these fishes are boys or girls. Not yet.

Reaction to them has been overwhelmingly positive so far--and why not? They're cute little GOLDFISH, constantly looking for fishy food, or, in Lachesis and Klothos' case, standing on their heads, because their heads are WAY too big for their bodies at this point! Give them time to grow into their headgear!!

Please come see them and wish them well! They've been assigned their fishy tasks for only a week!

April's Exhibit

I hinted that this would be a SPECIAL event! I can't show you any examples of the work to come, but keep tuned!

In April, we will feature a very special idea--a showcase of Victorian doorknobs! Sounds weird? Wait until you see the images!

Jerry Marsella has scoured the North Shore for existing doorknobs that are authentic Victorian shaped and hammered metal. He photographs them straight-on, then photoshops out the surroundings to present the doorknob as a Stand-Alone Piece of Art. Sometimes he combines doorknobs into a beautiful collage.

Interested in Antiques? Interested in North Shore History, or Victorian times? Intrigued by Old Architecture? This is for you!

I'll keep this list updated...

February Exhibit

Today, Elaine and I hashed out a couple of ideas for the title of the February Art Corner employees' show.

I suggested "ArtWORKS" as in Art AT work, or art that is created by workers...

Elaine suggested "We're More Than Framers." I like that one. Gets RIGHT to the point! Or "We Don't Just Frame." You get the idea, I think. We frame, but we produce art, too, is the point.

We're working on it...

Gallery Exhibits

Coming this winter, the Art Corner will present local artists and their works. The renovations you saw on Labor Day weekend will showcase an art gallery setting in the store. We will continue to renovate that side of the store--the right hand side as you come in the door, as an "official" Art Gallery. I have the Art Corner's Electrician--Richard Morse, of Rowley--coming in to add track lighting, and Ray Whittier of Lynn to do signage. I'll send press releases to the Salem News and the Salem Gazette, as well as the North Shore Sunday. Possibly the Globe, too. Besides sending out to our extensive mailing list to inform customers what to expect.

February: we kick off with a show featuring works by the Art Corner employees. Elaine Snow, design degree from Northeastern; Nancy Barnes, graduate of RISD; Justin Snow, Montserrat School of Art; Wendy Snow-Lang (me) Summa Cum Laude, New England School of Art and Design.

March: Virginia Hill, watercolorist of the Virginia Hill Gallery, Rockport. Prominent member of the Danvers Art Association and award winner at the Marblehead Art Association, among many other accolades, including a painting of hers in the personal collection of Mr. Steven Spielberg. More info on her works will be available here the closer we get to her show.

April: a very unique digital photography show that I will tell you more about the closer we get to it!

May: Mr. Benneville Strohecker of Marblehead will display his wonderful color works. His palette is a joy to see. His watercolors bring back memories of his trips abroad, his beloved Marblehead, his unique poetic Odes to Grandchildren--you must see!

June: AHEM. May I introduce--NO! YOU know him already!!--Mr. Charles Lang! Artist Extraordinaire--Pop Surrealist--Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror Illutrator--Landscape Artist--Still Life Painter--Portraitist, etc, etc, etc.

July: FISH!! Three artists present their takes on our Finny Friends: Michele Jata, MaryJo McConnell and Wendy Snow-Lang (me!)

October will be the annual Halloween Show, in loose conjuction with the Haunted Happenings events and the annual Terror Fantasies Supernatural Art Show.

More to come!

Corner Sample Display

Well, Erin and I have created a new display spinner for showing metal corner samples. We used the spinner that was holding ready-made metal frames, covered it with black foamcore, applied Velcro strips and moved the display to the center window between the other, taller spinners.

One of my goals for this month is DONE!

Have a look:
